It is a back muscle that lies on top of the rhomboid major.

Origin

7th cervical and 1st thoracic vertebrae.

Insertion

Scapula

Blood supply

Dorsal scapular artery.

Nerve supply

Dorsal scapular nerve.

Action

The muscle acts when you perform activities such as opening a drawer. It also helps to keep the scapula in place.

Disease/Injury

Rhomboid muscle can become strained due to over-exercising or a bad posture.

Muscle Exercise

Cross the left arm over the body and hug it to the chest with the right arm, then repeat with the other arm.
