Semitendinosus is a muscle located in the posterior aspect of the thigh. It is one of the hamstring muscles.

Action

It helps to straighten the hip joint and bend the knee joint. It also helps to rotate the knee towards and away from the body.

Disease/Injury

Strain on the hamstring muscles may cause severe pain; it is mostly observed in athletes in sports like running and sprinting.

Muscle Exercise

Weight-bearing exercises are important to strengthen the hamstring muscle. Exercises like seated leg curl, dumbbell lunge, lying leg curl can be performed.

Proper warm-up before any sustained physical activity is necessary to prevent any muscle strain.
