TRANSVERSE ARYTENOID

Transverse arytenoid is a laryngeal muscle. It originates from the arytenoid cartilage.

Origin

It arises from the arytenoid cartilage.

Insertion

It inserts into the opposite arytenoid cartilage.

Blood supply

Superior and inferior laryngeal arteries.

Nerve supply

Vagus nerve.

Action

It helps to pull the arytenoid cartilages towards each other to narrow and close the glottis (larynx) every time when we swallow, cough, and hold our breath.
