TRICEPS BRACHII

The triceps brachii is commonly known as the triceps. It is located on the posterior aspect of the arm.

Origin

Lateral head – above the radial groove of the humerus.

Medial head – below the radial groove of the humerus.

Long head – infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula.

Insertion

Olecranon process of the ulna.

Blood supply

Profunda brachii.

Nerve supply

Radial nerve.

Action

It helps to extend the elbow joint.

Disease/Injury

Tendon tear or rupture can occur as a result of excessive stress on the triceps brachii.

Muscle Exercise

Exercises like close-grip bench presses, triceps extensions, and push-ups increase the strength of the muscle.

Interesting Facts

The triceps makes up 2/3rd of the muscle mass in the arm. It is capable of moving a significant amount of weight. The triceps is a fairly strong and stable muscle.
