Functions:
The outer part of the adrenal gland is called the cortex and produces steroidal hormone in response to stress such as cortisol, aldosterone and testosterone. The inner part of the adrenal gland is called medulla and produces epinephrine and nor epinephrine which are commonly called as adrenaline and nor adrenaline. We cannot live without these hormones, including sex hormones and cortisol, which helps you to respond to stress and has many other functions also.
Diseases:
Adrenal disorders are due to, too much or not enough hormone production. When there is too much production of hormone it causes Cushing’s syndrome and when there is too little production of hormone it results in Addison’s disease. In some people there is lack of production of cortisol hormone by birth that is developmental disorder. Tumour, bleeding and infections are severe disease conditions of adrenal gland.
Interesting Facts:
When you are facing adventure or fear, there is a rush of adrenaline which is a result of epinephrine hormone or adrenaline hormone which is produced by adrenaline gland.
