ANKLE

Ankle connects the foot with the leg. It is a joint which is the junction of the foot and the lower leg just above the foot. Three bones are involved in this joint. Tibia and fibula gets joined with the talus bone and forms the ankle joint. This word has derived from the Latin word angulus which means bent.

Functions:

Ankle allows up and down movements of foot and side to side movements of foot.

Diseases:

Some common disease conditions which affect ankle joint are rheumatoid arthritis, sprained ankle, gout etc.

Interesting Facts:

Ankle is the most common joint to get sprained; you can wear ankle brace to perform normal activities after sprain.
