The human appendix is known as a vestigial organ, which means it has no necessary function.
Diseases:
The most common disease of the appendix is appendicitis which is the inflammation of the appendix which results in the pain which begins in the center of the abdomen, which after some time gets localised at McBurney’s point (located at the right side of the abdomen near the right hip bone).
Interesting Facts:
The appendix has no function in modern humans. It is believed to have been part of the digestive system in our primitive ancestors.
