Which part of the body makes you able to read a book? Check out a beautiful rainbow, how you can see this? Which part lets you cry when you are sad? What is your guess? Eyes! Yes, you are right. Eye is an organ of sight, which is situated in the bony orbit of skull. It is normally paired and lined with sensitive retina. Eye consist of all the visible structures within and surrounding the orbit and including eyelids, eyelashes and eyebrows. It consists of Iris, sclera, pupils, cornea, lens, retina, optic nerve, rods and cones etc. Cornea, lens and retina work as a team and structures help to make you visualize.

Functions:

Your eyes are at work from the moment you wake up to the moment you close them when go to sleep. They give you a lot of information about the world around you like shapes, colours, movements and more. Eyes make you able to see, read, draw, and get information about various things.

Diseases:

The commonest disease condition of eye is the visual acuity, you may face problem in reading, watching distant objects or letters, and you might have to wear glasses or lens.  As the age advances complaints of eye and disease conditions get increased like cataract which is very common in old age, glaucoma. Along with this you may get some infective conditions like sty, chalazion etc. Conjunctivitis is also very common infective condition of eye. Colour blindness, night blindness and complete blindness are genetic and congenital anomalies.

Interesting Facts:

 Eye has its own special bathing system -tears! Above the outer corner of each eye are the lacrimal glands, which make tears. Every time you blink your eye, a tiny drop of tear comes out from your upper eyelid. It helps to wash away germs, dust, or other particles that do not belong to your eye.  When you are looking at someone you love, your pupils dilate, and they do the same when you are looking at someone you hate.
