GALL BLADDER

Gall bladder is a small organ situated just below the liver. It causes the digestion of fat and concentrates the bile produced by the liver.

Functions:

When food containing fat enters the digestive tract, it stimulates the secretion of cholecystokinin. The bile which is produced by the liver is get stored in the gall bladder where it becomes more concentrated and get more intense to act on fats.

Diseases:

Disorders of gall bladder include gall stones, cholelithiasis, gall bladder polyp, gall bladder disease etc.  Surgical removal of gall bladder is easily tolerable. This procedure is known as cholecystectomy.

Interesting Facts:

It stores excess bile left over from the liver. The gall bladder can accommodate between 30 to 50 ml of wastes to put out by the body.
