HEART

The heart is one of the most vital organs in the human body. It is a muscle that pumps blood throughout the blood vessels by repeated, rhythmic contractions. The heart is divided into four main chambers, the two upper chambers are called as right and left atrium and the two lower chambers are called as right and left ventricles. There is a thick wall of muscle that divides the right and left sides of the heart called the septum. The human heart weighs about 250 to 350 grams. It is located to the little to the left of the middle of your chest and it's approximately about the size of your fist.

Functions:

Heart muscle is a special type of muscle. It sends blood around your body. The blood provides your body with the oxygen and nutrients it needs.  It also carries away waste. It acts like a pump. The right side of your heart receives blood from the body and pumps it to the lungs. The left side of the heart does the exact opposite. It receives blood from the lungs and pumps it out to the body.

Diseases:

Diseases of heart include various diseases like high blood pressure, coronary diseases, cardiomayopathy, arteriosclerosis means hardening of the arteries or thickening of the arteries, atherosclerosis causes narrowing of the artery because of cholesterol or fat inside, angina is also common complaint which causes pain in the chest as a result of in sufficient blood to heart, heart attack means a blood clot or other blockage cuts the blood flow to the part of the heart. There are many other heart diseases.

Interesting Facts:

Women’s heart beats faster than men’s. The human heart can create enough pressure that it could squirt blood at a distance of thirty feet.  Unlike other muscles, the heart muscle contracts without stimulus from the nervous system. Signals for the heart to beat come from the sinoatrial node near the top of the right atrium, in the heart.
