The general functions of the hypothalamus are of extreme importance for the body. It controls the release of 8 major hormones by the pituitary gland. It controls body temperature, blood pressure, food and water intake, hunger and thirst, sexual behaviour and reproduction, daily cycle in physiological state and behaviour known as circadian rhythm, emotional responses. Hypothalamus organizes and controls many complex emotions, feelings and moods as well as all motivational states including hunger, appetite and food intake and everything which gives you pleasure, satisfaction, comfort and creative activities.
Diseases:
There are few factors which cause hypothalamic diseases, hypothalamic dysfunction, malnutrition, trauma, anorexia, bulimia nervosa, tumours. The complaints are headache and vision problem, hypothyroidism problems, adrenal dysfunction, altered body temperature, diabetes insipidus hypopituitarism.
