A navel is a belly button or umbilical dip scar. Every person has a navel. It is a mark where the umbilical cord was once attached. The umbilical cord is a flexible tube that carries nutrients from the mother to a baby while the baby is still in the mother's womb. When the baby is born and the doctor cuts the cord and a small piece is left attached to the baby. When this piece falls off, the baby gets a belly button that is the navel.

Functions:

Navel is basically the scar of attached umbilical cord. And umbilical cord has provided you all your nutritional needs when you were in womb.  The navel is a body part that is covered, so it becomes safe even for normal skin microbes.

Diseases:

There are many reasons behind navel infection. Piercing navel is the most common cause of the navel infection.  Bacterial or yeast infections may affect the navel which causes soreness or excretion of discharge. To avoid these infections avoid piercing and keep the area dry after bathing and even keep it dry from sweating as in summer it may be difficult to keep the area clean and dry.

Interesting Facts:

Navel on the belly is the one part that is protected so that it becomes a safe heaven for normal skin microbes. The navel is mentioned as an important element of women’s beauty. The ideal form of female navel is small and shaped like a letter T, while the less attractive navel is horizontal and prominent.
