Function:
The main function of the neck is holding of the head. It helps to supply blood to the head and brain. The neck contains trachea which helps air to flow into lungs and out of lungs, and oesophagus which passes the water and food to the body. Neck also contains some part of spinal cords which control body movements; it is connected to the brainstem in the neck.
Diseases:
Have you ever suffered from neck sprain? Neck sprain because of wrong posture is common neck complaint. Diseases of neck include, cervical spondylitis, neck contains lymph nodes which may cause pain and swelling during infection like in tuberculosis, tonsillitis, middle ear infection, meningitis etc.
Interesting facts:
You will get surprised by listening that all mammals has seven neck vertebrae no matter how long or short their necks are. So as we all possess seven neck vertebrae, giraffe also has seven vertebrae and mouse also has seven vertebrae.
