SKIN

Skin is the outer covering of the human body. It is the largest organ of the human body. The skin consist of three layers, the epidermis which is an outer most layer that contains primary protective structure, the dermis is a fibrous layer that supports and strengthens the epidermis, the hypodermis is a layer of the fat beneath the dermis that supplies the nutrients to the other two layers and provide cushion and insulates the body.

Functions:

Functions of skin are protection, sensation it contains variety of nerve endings that react to heat and cold, touch, pressure, vibration, and tissue injury. Heat regulation , control of evaporation,  storage and synthesis like skin is a storage site for lipids and water, as well as it is a means for synthesis of vitamin D. Excretion of sweat which contains urea, absorption, water resistance so essential nutrients does not washed out of the body.

Diseases:

Diseases of skin include variety of diseases including from acne commonly known as pimples. Dermatosis, eczema, vesiculation, erythroderma, furunculosis, impetigo, Keratonosis,  leucoderma, lichen, lupus and psoriasis.

Interesting Facts:

Each square centimetre of human skin on the hand contains about 100cm of blood vessels and 300cm of nerve tissue. About 32million bacteria call every inch of your skin home. The reason why tattoos do not vanish even though we shed our skin is because the dye is injected deeper into the dermis part of the skin.
