Functions:
The function of stomach is storage of food. Temporary storage is important as we eat considerably faster than we can digest food. It also causes mixing the food with water and digestive juices, churning and breakdown food into smaller particles, movement of food to small intestine. It is controlled by a ring-like band called pyloric sphincter.
Diseases:
What all can be wrong with the stomach: Hyperacidity, peptic ulcer, reflux disease, bleeding in stomach, gastro paresis and stomach cancer.
Interesting Facts:
When you blush, the lining of your stomach also turns red. An adult stomach can hold approximately 1.5 litres of material. When we swallow our food, we also swallow air. This air causes most of the gas in your stomach and intestinal tract. The best way to get rid of this air is to burp!
