TESTES

The testes are the primary sexual organ of the male body. Each produces millions of sperms and large amounts of hormones throughout a life. The testes are located in the scrotum, which keeps them outside the body this is important to keep the temperature of sperms below the normal body temperature. It consist of hundreds seminiferous tubules surrounded by connective tissue and interstitial cells, the interior tubule network connects with the epididymis, which is situated on the top of the each testis.

Functions:

There are two main functions of the testis first is production of sperms, seminiferous tubules are where sperm cells are created, they are immature till they come to the epididymis.  The other function is hormone production; it produces androgen hormone or male hormone such as testosterone.

Diseases:

Testes are present outside the body so they are more prone to injury or blunt trauma. Testicular torsion, testicular cancer, hypogonadism is also disorder of testis where it cannot produce enough testosterone, in adult men this condition may produce erectile dysfunction, infertility, decreased sex drive, decrease in beard and body hair. There are some genetic or developmental disorders of testes like klienfilter’s syndrome, undescended testicles.

Interesting Facts:

Unlike other cells, which needs an individual’s full DNA to create a new human? Both half DNA from sperm and half DNA from ovum must be combined for humans to reproduce.
