Functions:
The main function of thymus is production of T-cells to fight against infections. It transforms lymphocyte which is a type of white blood cell into the T cell means cells developed in the thymus. These cells are then transported to various lymph glands, these cells play important role in fighting against infections and diseases. Swelling of the lymph glands and fever are signs that indicate about immune cells are multiplying to fight against bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections.
Diseases:
Diseases of thymus are not so common. Thymoma is the common tumour of the mediastenum, thymolipoma which is not so common tumour, thymic hyperplasia means increase in number of thymic cells which results in larger organ, thymic carcinoma which is also not so common malignant condition.
