The best gifts a dad can give his children

Being a father is a huge responsibility. You are responsible for how you influence your child. Children learn by example and it is important you be the right role model for them. Small children look up to their fathers. In their little world, everything is perfect and Papa is responsible for it. In their eyes Papa can do no wrong. It is scary to think of living up to such high expectations, but you can definitely give it a try! Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a Dad.

  • Be the dad your child wants you to be

Do you ever come back home and switch on ESPN on TV? Do you bring home work from the office? If yes, chances are you are missing out on a lot of your child’s growing up and causing him a lot of disappointment. You do not have to spend all your free time with your child but just a few considerate moments. Like when your child runs into your arms happily when you are back from office, spend some time with him listening attentively to what he has to say. Appreciate him for any work he has done well. Go to his school and attend his plays and football matches. Nothing will make him love you and admire you more.

  • Encourage your kids

Your child needs to know that you are there for him always. No one else and no amount of encouragement from others can replace you and your support. When your child looks out into the crowd searching for you, it shows his need for your support and approval. He spots you and performs better than his best; he doesn’t spot you and ends up being completely deflated. Your encouragement and support is also necessary for shaping your child’s self-esteem in the right way. It teaches them to be brave and take risks.

  • Teach your kids that you are human too

You are a superhero for your kids. But you are also a human, and you are bound to go wrong at times. Teach them this and see the pride in their little eyes about their daddy being the best!

  • Share your daddy story

Talk to your child about your father. Tell him about how you wanted your dad to be there for you and he couldn’t be there for various reasons. Then tell your child how you will not repeat the same mistake with him. Your child will grow up respecting you for the wonderful human being that you are.
