Hair loss is something that happens to everyone. Losing a few strands of hair every day while you comb or brush your hair is normal. It is only when the hair fall is in extreme and the hair loss is evident to others as well, that we become conscious of it.
Hair loss can be due to a number of reasons. Hormonal changes during pregnancy and menopause may lead to hair loss. Major infective illnesses are also a cause for it. Severe hair loss can occur due to certain drugs and radiotherapy. Hair loss can also be genetic.
One of the most common and often the most ignored cause of hair fall is our lifestyle.. Too much stress, too much exposure to the sun, lack of physical exercises and faulty eating habits are the main culprits of hair loss today.
Here are some tips to help combat hair fall and keep your crown healthy and shiny
- Daily pollution and the numerous styling products that we use for our hair can leave the scalp and hair strands dry and lifeless. This makes them break off easily. A little bit of lactic acid is all that one needs to make the hair look lively again! Apply some sour cream or plain yoghurt into the damp hair. Leave it for 20 minutes. Rinse off with cold water and then shampoo as you regularly do. You can feel the visible difference in your hair. Plus the fresh hair is stronger and won’t break off easily.
- When hair keeps falling regularly in considerable amounts, we are left with a thin bunch on our heads that looks dull and energy less. To prevent this hair loss and to add volume to your mane, we have an unlikely beverage – Beer! This fermented drink has lots of yeast in it which helps to bring the bounce back to your head. Pour some beer into a cup. Wait till the bubbles disappear. Add a tablespoon of sunflower oil to it and also a raw egg. Mix well and apply this mixture to your damp hair. Let it remain for 15 minutes before you rinse it off with plenty of plain water. The yeast and protein residue from the wheat and malt in the beer give your hair the required volume and bounce. No more rat’s tail for hair!
- The harsh sun, too much pollution or the hard water; over exposure to any of these can make your hair lose the moisture. This will lead to dry, brittle hair that breaks off with the slightest touch! The solution here is Honey! Honey is a natural humectant that locks in the moisture and does not allow your strands to dry. Apply some honey on your damp hair and let it remain for 15 minutes before you rinse it off. If you want to loosen up the honey a bit, you can add some olive oil to it. This simple hair care trick done once or twice a month can blow away all the damage done by the harsh weather and the sun.
- The poor diet, harsh sun, stress and too many chemicals and pollution bring on a lot of damage to our scalp. The result is dandruff- the white , itchy flakes that are not only a reason for embarrassment but also for hair loss! For getting rid of these flaxes, make a mixture of 2 tablespoons each of lemon juice, olive oil and water. Apply this mixture to your damp hair and let it remain for 20 minutes. Rinse off and shampoo as usual. With the visible reduction in the flakes, the hair loss will also be visibly reduced.
- Is your hair falling off due to a simple reason that your brush gets stuck in it each time you decide to brush it? You could be suffering from frizzy hair and your solution lies in proper conditioning! Avocado is the best when it comes to hair care. It contains a lot of proteins and oils that are comparable to our body’s natural oils. Mash an avocado and apply the paste to damp hair. For added conditioning, mix a raw egg into it. The natural conditioner will help smoothen your frizzy hair without the harmful chemicals. You will find yourself smiling when your brush comes out smoothly out of your hair. And your smile will only widen when you see that the brush has not a single strand of hair to it!
- Do not forget Grandma! A simple hot oil massage done once a week will improve the circulation to your scalp promoting healthy hair growth. This also keeps dandruff at bay. Plus when you get yourself massaged, you will feel the tensions and stress from your body seep away. All the more reason to get a good massage every week!
These are but a few tips and tricks to help you combat hair loss. The reason for hair loss as stated above could be numerous. Do consult your doctor if you continue to lose hair alarmingly!
