But this is bringing with it a lot of stress. Almost all women are playing multiple roles &#8211;\u00a0caring for children or aging parents,\u00a0along with managing the household and responsibilities at the workplace.\u00a0The stress they face in each scenario is different.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stress at the workplace<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re sitting stressed out at work right now &#8211;\u00a0or lying in bed,\u00a0too stressed to sleep &#8211;\u00a0you are not alone. Too much work,\u00a0too little money and not enough opportunity for growth are stressing out many women on the job.<\/p>\n<p>Women are underappreciated,\u00a0undervalued and underpaid. Apart from the common job stress women may suffer from mental and physical harassment at workplaces. Sexual harassment at the workplace is another major source of worry for women. Research also shows that women who worry about losing their jobs are more likely to have high blood pressure,\u00a0unhealthy cholesterol levels and obesity. Some may experience shortness of breath,\u00a0pressure or pain in the lower chest or upper abdomen,\u00a0dizziness,\u00a0lightheadedness or fainting,\u00a0upper back pressure and extreme fatigue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stress at family level<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Women are playing too many roles within the family.<\/li>\n<li>Responsibilities of children and family members.<\/li>\n<li>Educating children.<\/li>\n<li>Managing both workplace and family.<\/li>\n<li>Playing social roles also causes stress. Family gatherings can be a real blessing for you &#8211;\u00a0but sometimes too much togetherness can become a source of stress<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Women are more affected emotionally than men not only by their own stressful experiences but also by the stressful experiences of the people they care about.<\/p>\n<p>Family stress is a major risk factor that contributes to heart trouble among women. This may also lead to other disorders like diabetes, and thyroid problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beating the stress<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stress is an inevitable part of life. What makes a difference is how you manage that stress. Here are the tips to beat stress:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Take care of yourself &#8211;\u00a0set aside time to engage in healthy activities that you enjoy or that help you relax.<\/li>\n<li>You can only do one thing at a time. So either delay or say no to the unimportant tasks,\u00a0and make more time for important tasks.<\/li>\n<li>Keeping the family and yourself organized reduces stress. Keep separate folders of family health issues,\u00a0finances, and daily responsibilities. Take help of your children and other family members in developing an organization plan for your household. Identify ways in which your family can help you out,\u00a0so that you find the time to take a break and rejuvenate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Stress associated with life changes in women<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hormonal levels in female bodies change during the premenstrual period,\u00a0pregnancy,\u00a0post-delivery and menopausal changes. This affects the body and mind,\u00a0leading to stress and depression.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Premenstrual:<\/strong>\u00a0Premenstrual phase is a complex condition that includes physical and emotional changes in you. Research has shown that hormonal changes,\u00a0changes in brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the time after ovulation and before menstruation lead to symptoms that cause stress.<\/p>\n<p>Premenstrual symptoms include tension,\u00a0irritability,\u00a0and tiredness,\u00a0feelings of aggression or anger,\u00a0low mood, anxiety,\u00a0and loss of confidence. You may have a change in your sleep pattern,\u00a0in sexual feelings and in appetite. Relationships may become strained because of these symptoms. Monthly cycle of these symptoms causes more stress for you.<\/p>\n<p>To reduce the stress caused because of this premenstrual phase,\u00a0try to understand first what is happening. Then take care of your diet and exercise. Avoid caffeine and alcohol. Get enough sleep.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pregnancy:\u00a0<\/strong>This is a time where major changes are taking place &#8211;\u00a0in your body,\u00a0mind and the family. And these changes can add new stresses to your life.<\/p>\n<p>Feeling stressed is common during pregnancy. But too much stress can make you uncomfortable. It may lead to troubled sleep, headaches,\u00a0loss of appetite,\u00a0high blood pressure,\u00a0chances of having premature baby or low birth-weight baby.<\/p>\n<p>Serious types of stress include negative life events like divorce,\u00a0serious illness or death in your family,\u00a0or losing a job. Sometimes, pregnancy &#8211;\u00a0related stress like worrying a lot about miscarriage,\u00a0health of the baby or becoming a parent can also cause serious stress.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some ways to reduce stress during pregnancy:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Figure out what is causing stress and share it with your partner, friend or doctor.<\/li>\n<li>Know that discomforts during pregnancy are only temporary.<\/li>\n<li>Perform relaxation activities like prenatal yoga or meditation.<\/li>\n<li>Join a childbirth education class so that you will get rid of pregnancy related stress.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Post-delivery:<\/strong>\u00a0Stress and anxiety after giving birth is very common because of the decreasing hormonal levels and the pressures of being a mom. First time moms tend to suffer more.<br \/>\nFeeling of inadequacy,\u00a0physical appearance,\u00a0weight problems,\u00a0lack of sleep,\u00a0and comparison with other moms cause postpartum blues.<\/p>\n<p>To reduce the post-partum stress, the key is to understand and enjoy your experience as a mom and stay relaxed.Take care of yourself,\u00a0eat healthy food and do exercise recommended for new moms.Remember,\u00a0you can&#8217;t do all the things at the same time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Menopause:<\/strong>\u00a0Menopause is a stressful life event because of the various types of change that occur like low energy levels,\u00a0joint pain, hot flushes,\u00a0insomnia,\u00a0depression,\u00a0and irritability.<\/p>\n<p>These may be partially due to hormonal changes. In addition,\u00a0familial and personal issues such as the demands of teenagers,\u00a0children leaving home,\u00a0aging parents,\u00a0and career changes crop up during these years.<\/p>\n<p>To fight with menopause: induced stress,\u00a0take charge. Don&#8217;t let menopause and its symptoms take control of your day-to-day life. Spend time with your friends and people who make you happy. It is especially helpful to spend time with women who have already experienced menopause.
