10 tips to protect your eyes in summer

Summer is a time to flaunt your fashion with the latest trends. However, this must be accompanied by adequate care of your sense organs too. Since they are in direct contact with the sunlight, there is a great need to take care of them.

Here are ten ways in which you can make sure your eyes are not harmed during the summer :

TIP 1: Get sunglasses with 100% UV protection

Do not fall for sunglasses which simply look aesthetic to the eyes. Go for the ones which have complete UV protection. If you wear glasses that offer low UV protection, then it is probably harming your eyes more than helping it.

TIP 2: Adequate Hydration

Make sure you are drinking at least ten glasses of water every day. If you do not drink sufficient water, then your eyes could dry which will negatively affect their functioning. Drying of the eyes can lead to itching and irritation.

TIP 3: Lubrication for the Eyes

If your eyes seem red and painful when you wake up, then try some lubricating eye-drops which would comfort and reduce the pain of your eyes.

TIP 4: Stay in at Peak-Sunlight Hours

As far as possible, stay in during the afternoon and late morning. At these times, the sunlight is strongest and the UV exposure is the highest.

TIP 5: Maintain Eye Hygiene

Wash your hand once you are back home from any outing. If you do not wash your hands properly, you could end up infecting your eyes with allergies and dirt.

TIP 6: Keep the Makeup Away

Try to avoid makeup as much as possible, if you have any form of pain or itching in your eyes. Do not share the makeup with anyone else.

TIP 7: Careful Application of Sunblock

Do not apply the sunblock too close to the eyes, as it could enter the eyes and lead to irritation.

TIP 8: Cold Water Treatment

Close your eyelids and wash them over with cold water. This will soothe the eyes and avoid them from swelling.

TIP 9: Don a Hat or Visor!

While wearing glasses will go a long way, it is better to accompany it with a hat. This will help to reduce the effect of sunlight on your eyes and surrounding areas.

TIP 10: Protect Your Eyes on Cloudy Days Too!

Do not stop wearing your sunglass simply because it is cloudy. The UV rays get sprinkled over the atmosphere and persist over time. Therefore, they can penetrate through clouds and affect your eyes.

Did you know that the UV is highest when the sun is at the highest in the sky? This is between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Since the air is thinner and cleaner at higher altitudes, there is greater UV exposure in the mountains than in the valleys.
