Have you ever felt that searing pain and tender feeling just inside the sole of your feet?  Chances are it is Plantar Fasciitis, which is a common occurrence in overweight people. Caused largely due to inactivity or sometimes due to extreme activity Plantar fasciitis is the condition of inflammation of fascia (layer of tissue under skin) of foot and is experienced to be running from the heel to the toes on lower surface of foot.

What causes planter fasciitis?

Tear in the plantar fascia causes pain and inflammation.

What are the symptoms of planter fasciitis?

Severely acute pain is experienced while walking.

Pain is acute and more when walking for the first time in the morning, after a prolonged rest or walking after sitting for a long time.

Pain is reduced while resting as plantar fascia tightens. The pain might gradually subside once the person starts walking.

Who suffer?

People with flat feet or high arches are affected more.

Overweight people are more prone to develop the condition

Athletes, dancers and people who stand for prolonged hours suffer from plantar fasciitis often.

Arthritis and trauma leads to fasciitis too. This is secondary plantar fasciitis.

How to treat?

Treatment of fasciitis is easy, cheaper, and needs very short time.

Rest, stretching exercises help relieve pain.

It may lead to heel spurs if left untreated. Heel spurs are the projection from heel bone.

How to prevent?

Maintain a healthy weight

Wear shoes that give appropriate cushioning effect and support heel, arch and the ball of the foot Start exercising. Walking is the best way to prevent stress on plantar fascia

Avoid walking barefoot or on a hard rocky surface.
